My job was made very easy today. With temperatures as high as it was, and no air-conditioner, all that can be done (with any sense of enjoyment) is sit around watching movies. And that we did. Not all day, but pretty much most of it.
We watched Despicable Me (which I really didn’t think was as great as I’d heard, or maybe I just need to watch it with people that laugh at the funny bits), Dora The Explorer, Bolt and Astro Boy. Now that’s a lazy day if I’ve ever seen it written. But to make myself sound better, I did manage to throw three loads of laundry on (between movies) and cook lunch (nutella sandwhiches). And we did brave the heat late in the afternoon and venture around to Nana and Papa’s for a swim, so not all was lost to a mindless staring at a big black box.
The kids mentioned roughly 18 times on the drive home that they’d had a really fun day today, thank you mummy.
With all the things I’ve done to keep them busy and entertained this week, and all throughout the holidays, they’re almost at their happiest when they get to sit down and tune out for a couple of hours. I guess I can understand that. We all need it from time to time, even kids.
