SUMMER | PHOTO A DAY | THIRTY NINE

Not too far from where we live is a miniature railway. For three dollars a ride you get to sit on a tiny version of a diesel train, or a steam train if you’re really lucky, and spend a good 15 minutes or so listening to your kids scream and laugh in delight. And every few minutes you’ll be passed by a fellow train full of gulliveresque passengers, who’ll wave madly at you as you’re suprised to find yourself doing the same. It’s such a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.
Of course this is one of Jaedon’s most favourite things to do in the world to do, and it’s not that far behind for Alicia-Rae. Though singing, dancing, dressing in pink, and tea parties would probably top the list for her, but she’s more than happy to tag along.
Most definately the best part of the ride is the two tunnels you have to go through, part of the ritual being to wait until that moment it goes pitch black and then scream as loud as your lungs will let you. Or the person sitting in front of you. This is perhaps what Alicia-Rae loves the most – anything that involves using her vocal chords. Jaedon prefers to sound out a long and mournful whistle, well practiced and pitch perfect. It’s such a shame audio can’t be attached to photos.

Jaedon will be starting back at Kinder tomorrow, so no surprises of what I’m aiming for day 40’s photo to be.  As much as part of me is looking forward to this stage in his life, of watching him grow and become more independent, and (admittedly) to gaining a few extra hours in my day, I’m also feeling a bit sad that our days of spontaneous adventures won’t be so spontaneous anymore – life in general is about to get a bit more organised and structured, and I don’t much like those words. They’re no fun at all really. So if someone can teach me how to organise our sponteneity I’d be very grateful.  And if someone else can show me how to stop my children growing up so fast I’d be kind of appreciative too.
