I know a few of you already follow this blog, as I’ve seen the name pop up in various discussions over time. It’s one of my favourites, and not just because it’s all about orange. Though that’s good enough reason in itself. It’s one of the first blogs I check when I open up Google Reader each morning. It’s like christmas – as the page loads, kind of like unwrapping a present in reverse, there’s always a gorgeous surprise waiting for me. Patterns, creative inspiration, diy ideas, twitter backgrounds, cool websites, printable graphics, downloads, and all sorts of fun quizzes. Bits and pieces for anyone and everyone really.
A couple of days ago Jessica mentioned a quiz she’d taken, which helps determine, via your preference for various colours, what kind of career you’re most suited for. Sounds kind of odd to me. But I can never resist a good quiz, so I clicked on her link and jumped right in. I was surprised, but only a little bit impressed when it told me I was a Creator. It then revealed a list of occupations that I would be suited to, Photographer of course being one of them. But also listed was an Architect, which I came very close to studying for at Uni, and an Interior Designer, which I did study, via correspondence, while living in England. Not bad. And apparantly my personality traits were nonconforming, impulsive, expressive, romantic, intuitive, sensitive, and emotional. All of these could have been hand-picked specifically for me, apart from the noconforming bit. That doesn’t describe me at all.
So then I got Matt to take it – I was curious to see just how accurate it was. As a Project Manager / Aerospace Engineer his results came back as an Organiser, very closely followed by a Doer. Adjectives to describe him were self-control, practical, self-contained, orderly, systematic, precise, and accurate. Along with emotionally stable, reliable, high energy and persistent. Add the further description of: These adventurous types prefer action-oriented, concrete problems rather than dealing with thought-provoking, ambiguous, abstract dilemmas. Fields of interest include mechanical, construction, and outdoor careers. They might also enjoy working with machines, tools, and equipment to repair or build something and you have yourselves my husband. In a nutshell. This is so scarily true. We were laughing so hard reading this, as they may have well just tacked: and your name is almost always Matt to the end.
I’d love to know how they work all this out by simply analysing what colours we prefer to look at. Are we, as humans, that predictable? Or just very cleverly engineered.
Go on, you know you want to. Take the test for yourself. Then let me know if you’re so easily boxed as well. 🙂
