I don’t know how many times I was stopped in the street and asked why there were so many people with cameras around? Were we part of a camera club, or a class? Or was it just a great day for taking photographs (hardly – it was cold, and windy, and threatening rain, in true Melbourne style). I was totally surprised by all the interest, though I really shouldn’t have been. I mean, we weren’t at all inconspicuous. There were 50 of us all up. Most of us had not met before but we all had one thing in common (apart from nice warm jackets) – a love for photography. And we were each there to take part in the second annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk. If you’ve not heard of this before (which I suspect you probably haven’t) it’s a fantastic opportunity for local photographers, professional and hobbyists alike, to get together and share in a common interest, making some new friends and having a great time along the way. There were groups meeting together all around the globe, on the same day, in their area of town, shooting as they walked and talked. How’s that for a wonderful idea.
I’m so glad I took part in it. I got to meet some some lovely, genuine (and extremely talented) people. And I got to take loads of photos as well. That’s always a bonus as far as I’m concerned. Here are a couple from the day (well, three) – if you’d like to see some more feel free to check out my short little slideshow.
I hope that helps explain things if you were in Brunswick on the 18th of July and wondered if you’d been caught in the middle of a paparazzi downpour. 🙂
