NELLY GOES TO HOLLYWOOD

One thing we’ve learned over here in the US of A is serving sizes are MUCH bigger than back home in Australia.  We stopped at a cafe in Beverly Hills this afternoon, and ordered biscuits for the kids which were as big as their heads.  And a whole plate of dinner came home with us in a box this evening because Matt and I struggled to eat one plate between the two of us (and we’re clearly too cheap to let it go to waste).

The other thing we’ve discovered is Los Angeles isn’t nearly as big as we’d imagined. Impressive, yes.  Overwhelming, no.  Even back seat driving from the wrong side of the car has been a doddle.

Our highlight so far has been driving to a vantage point this afternoon, in the Hollywood Hills, that allowed us to view both the HOLLYWOOD sign, and the city-scape of Los Angeles.  It was AWESOME, as Rhino (from the movie Bolt) would say.  (As the kids weren’t too savvy on Hollywood, or it’s iconic sign, we had to explain it to them using a clip from the movie – which they’ve seen 2 million and 3 times. After that point they were genuinely excited, and I couldn’t get Rhino, or the word AWESOME, out of my mind.)

Tomorrow we’re off to Disneyland.  A dream of mine for roughly 39 years and 363 days.  And Matt’s for almost as long.  And the kids since about 2 weeks ago, when we showed them the website which outlined the numerous train rides available, along with all the princesses Alicia-Rae could imagine parading the streets with nothing to do but look beautiful and pose for pictures.

I’ll let you know if it meets all of our expectations.
