Last night the kids had their first experience with fireworks, and I don’t know who was more excited about going into the city to see them – them or us. It was well past their bedtime before we even left home, which could have been a dangerous move on our part, but we all survived intact and had an absolutely delightful time.
The kids had a blast, and we had a blast watching them, and listening to their excited squeals. It was one of those moments we were completely filled with the joy and wonder of having children, felling blessed by their presence in our lives, knowing that they are a part of us and always will be. How precious to have photographs to remember such a wonderful night.
Alicia-Rae was twirling her hair, thumb in mouth, well before the fireworks started – which is her tiredness ‘tell’. I’m glad she managed to stay awake though, and I’m glad I managed to capture a stage of her life that will no doubt be over soon enough. Admittedly, I’m in no hurry for her to stop sucking her thumb, for as long as she does she’ll remain my sweet baby. I’m not quite ready to lose that yet.
Jaedon was at the perfect age for it all – wide awake and full of awe at everything going on around him. He was so much fun to watch, never mind the fireworks.
And just a couple of other favourites from the night.
Hope you all had a safe and happy New Years celebration, and wishing you a delightful, awe-inspiring and blessed 2011.
