Oh my gosh – if I could photograph a wedding like Robyn and Alex’s, in a location like Lancemore Hill, every weekend I would be a very happy photographer girl indeed.
There was so much about this day that was beautiful, honest, real, timeless, and completely moving.
And sacrificial.
So much of themselves was given, willingly and openly, to the other, and extended outwards to those close to them. It was a perfect union of man and wife and a joining of two families together, merging to forge a new path forward. And I know this beautiful couple are destined to have an incredible life together, simply because of the decisions that were made to demonstrate what marriage means to them, and how dear their sense of family, love, honour and respect.
As for the sunshine – I’ll let the photographs do the talking in that regard. But, hilltop wind aside, it was a magical day – the weatherman was very kind and gracious. Alongside a day that was very symbolic in all manner of ways, I’m glad their first day together was filled with such wonderful light and happiness. That’s got to be a good sign.
Well here we go – I should really split this into two posts, but I’m just so excited for Robyn to be able to share them – I can see her in their hotel room checking in for a peek. I hope they put a big smile on her face.
(and stay tuned at the end for a little something extra…)
It didn’t quite go off with the bang that was expected…
Some bridesmaid gorgeousness
And some more
And how awesome was Robyn – getting dressed in the window for me, just so I could make the most of the light.
How awesome is she regardless. And beautiful.
And certainly happy her big day had arrived.
Isn’t this just the most spectular entrance you could imagine.
The first glance.
I couldn’t imagine Alex looking more proud if I tried. And rightly so.
Alex and his Best Man. The kind of Best Man any man would hope for.
The scenery was epic.
I love this set. These guys looks so incredibly happy.
In fact, they look pretty happy in most of these. Could be a good reason for that.
He adores her. He really does.
Just a few of my favourite moments from the reception.
What’s gotta be the toughest moment for any dad. But he did beautifully.
And talk about doing things beautifully
Now this is where I did something I wouldn’t normally do. I was a couple of photographs into the first dance. Now I know they’d been practicing this for a while now – I saw the state of poor Robyn’s shoes (just kidding, Alex). But I figured if they’d put so much time and effort into getting it right it must have been pretty important to them. I kind of wanted to capture more than just a photo.
I knew I was fairly safe, as I had the wonderfully talented Kim Selby shooting alongside me (thank you so, so much Kim – you’re wonderful), so I popped my camera onto video mode, something I’ve only done half a dozen times in the two years I’ve had the camera, and got a real life capture of their first dance together as man and wife instead. I’m infinately glad I did. I’ve watched it myself now about 6 million times, and it still makes me smile deep inside.
Robyn and Alex, and family – thank you so much for the honour of being part of your incredibly special day. Everything about it was beautiful, but yourselves above all else. It’s a privlege to have come to know you over these last few months. I can’t wait to hear where life takes you both from here.
